OUR ORIGINS & PRINCIPLES

Simply Pilates was founded by Alison Percic and Sandra Percic in 2002. It is a classical Pilates studio which means it aims to preserve the principles of Joseph Pilates, and to teach them with the utmost integrity.

The Pilates method is a fitness movement system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. This unique classical or authentic system comprises of over 500 specific body conditioning exercises. It was designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself, but also as an important adjunct to professional sports, training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds.

Joseph Pilates called his exercise method the Art of Contrology, highlighting the way the method encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles.

Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing; Strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdomen and back muscles, and coordination – both muscular and mental – are key components in an effective Pilates program. Posture, balance and core strength are all significantly increased. Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time. Pilates teaches blance and control of the body, and that capacity spills over into other areas of one’s life.

authentic & CLASSICAL

THE SIMPLY PILATES difference

We at Simply Pilates are committed to a Classical or Authentic approach to teaching, which is fitness based, systematic and integrated. We are dedicated to maintaining the original integrity of Joseph Pilates’ work by providing tools for students to understand and practice the Pilates principles.

Simply Pilates teaches Pilates in its original form – with minor changes that reflect the advancement of scientific understanding of the human body. Exercises are linked by transitions to flow seamlessly. There is a focus on flow, thereby developing endurance and stamina.

Pilates is taught as a movement system linked intelligently with purpose. Each exercise is taught with a unique and dynamic rhythm.

Authentic or Classical Pilates can be practiced by everyone, from the de-conditioned to the elite athlete.

‘It was conceived to limber and stretch muscles and ligaments so that your body will be as supple as that of a cat…’

FAQ

To give you the best possible start Simply Pilates recommends a minimum of 3 to 5 Private sessions to begin with.

These will form the base of your assessment and allow us to guide you into the Pilates Method and also match you with an appropriate group.

Wear something you feel comfortable to work out in. It can range from tights to tracksuit pants, from singlets to t shirts. Very loose shorts are not always the best option as sometimes your legs will be up in the air.
For Pilates classes you can be bare foot or wear socks or purchase grip socks at the studio.
For the Booty Barre classes we recommend either bare feet or ballet slippers.
You can bring water or purchase it at the studio, the only thing you will need to bring is a small towel if you like and a good attitude.

Beginners can start on either Apparatus or in a beginner Mat class. To start with the Apparatus, you will need to do a few private sessions so that we can assess your level and also get you familiarized with the Apparatus.

Your aim should be to work out 2 – 3 times a week. This may be exclusively Pilates, as our sessions constitute a full body workout, or you may choose to add Pilates to your current exercise routine. Pilates will compliment and enhance all other activities
